Why Gregynog Hall?

The two auctions mark the opening of our new office, auction room and marketing partnership with Gregynog Hall,, near Tregynon, Powys. The location of Gregynog Hall means that we can serve better our expanding client base in mid-Wales and the Welsh borders. The Hall is a perfect setting to provide client service whether that be for buyers to collect lots they have purchased or for vendors to have items assessed and entered for an auction.

What so special about Gregynog Hall?

To understand fully the beauty and artistic heritage of Gregynog, we encourage a visit. But there is an amazing synergy between what we do and the history of Gregynog Hall.

Gregynog Hall was once the home of the 'Davies Sisters' of Llandinam and they are Wales' most famous art collectors. They were prolific art buyers who purchased incredible Impressionist and Old Master paintings and sculpture by such icons as Van Gogh, Renoir and Rodin. Their collection was bequeathed to the National Museum of Wales were it forms the core of the permanent exhibition.

The Davies Sisters' collection was displayed at the Music Room at Gregynog Hall, were the public were invited to enjoy concerts by famous composers. This is where our two auctions on the 27th July will take place. The famous Music Room will therefore be holding its first ever art auction and it promises to be very special.

I am thinking of coming to the viewing on Friday, 26th. Can anyone come?

Absolutely! The more the merrier. Viewing on the Friday is a public viewing from 1pm. But from 3pm we will be serving drinks and there will be live music. We'll be closing at 7pm. If you are not local you might like to book a room at the Hall and then stay for the auction. Lots of potential bidders have chosen to do this.

I am thinking of coming to the auction what will be different to Cardiff?

Not much in terms of the auction - bidders can pay with debit cards and collect their new treasures on the day. There is plenty of parking and seating. There is a cafe for lunch and coffees and lovely grounds to explore if there is time.

Where is Gregynog Hall?

Gregynog Hall is a few miles from Newtown in Powys. Although amongst beautiful Grade I listed gardens and nestled amongst rolling hills, access to the Hall is surprisingly good from the South and North Wales & English borders.

What facilities are at your new offices at Gregynog Hall?

Our offices are directly next to our own designated car park which is on the edge of the main car park. There is a good cafe and rooms should clients or auction goers wish to stay the night. If you have time, the gardens are wonderful and historic tours of the important landmark Hall can be arranged in advance.

Can you still bid online for the two auctions?

Absolutely. The auctions will have live bidding on our website as normal. You can also book phone lines or commission bids in the usual manner.

What about delivery of purchased lots?

We will automatically transfer purchases to the nearest of our venues to your postal address. Bidders from further afield (out of Wales), will be called to ask where they would like their purchases to be delivered to.

Will ever Welsh Sale now be at Gregynog Hall?

No, the next Welsh Sale on November 16th, is back in the auction rooms in Cardiff.

But we will be holding regular auctions at Gregynog for non-Welsh art including Modern British and European Fine Art. Our next art auction at Gregynog is on November 27th. Entries invited now for both our November Welsh Sale in Cardiff and non Welsh art in Gregynog Hall.

When does your Gregynog Office open?

It is open now by appointment. As with all our venues, call ahead and we will meet you there. The appointment system means that we can best serve you efficiently for whatever reason you might be calling.
