Due to the size of entries, this March's Welsh Sale is in two parts. On Saturday, March 12th will be Session 1: Pictures
We are blessed with superb entries by Wales’ favourite artist, Sir Kyffin Williams, this time with six oils in the auction. But aside from Sir Kyffin there really is plenty of fine art to choose from. There is a single owner collection of Neath related paintings which I am very pleased to be instructed to sell. Each painting is by notable 19th or 18th
century landscape artists, and it will be very interesting how such a collection of paintings focused on a single region of Wales performs. Certainly, the pre-auction interest has been promising. Please see our article on this collection here Capturing the Vale of Neath — Rogers Jones Co (EN)
The stalwarts of The Welsh Sale are represented by many high-quality works too. There are stunningly colourful works by John Elwyn while in contrast to these is a superb large piece by John Knapp Fisher entitled ‘Small Holding’ which has sheer black night. Donald McIntyre takes a bow at the end of the Saturday auction with seven fabulous lots.
Below is a small cross section of pictures in the March Welsh Sale. The catalogue will be online to view, week commencing February 21st.
