Life in Colour: The World of David Hockney
Rogers Jones are delighted to announce a selection of etchings and publications by renowned artist David Hockney are due to feature in their upcoming Selection & Collections auction on April 1st
The centerpiece of this selection is Hockney’s 2016 A Bigger Book, which documents over 60 years of his work. Never before has Hockney’s oeuvre been documented on such a magnificent scale.
This 498-page book surveys Hockney’s work from his teenage years studying at Bradford School of Art, to the 1960s where Hockney became a breakthrough British artist.
Hockney’s iridescent depictions of swimming pools in LA, epitomised by his infamous work ‘A Bigger Splash’ is also included within this publication. Likewise, it documents his recent extensive portrait series, iPad drawings and his modern fascination with Yorkshire landscapes. Published as a visual and personal review of Hockney’s work, this book is a spectacular record of his ever-evolving art for both Hockney collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Although most noted for his paintings, Hockney also created etchings, many which accompanied his own selections of literature. Two highlights of this are Hockney’s ‘Illustrations for Fourteen Poems from Constanine P. Cavafy’ and ‘Six Fairy Tales From the Brothers Grimm’
A signed edition of ‘Illustrations for Fourteen Poems’ is also to be included in this sale, alongside two framed etchings of ‘Beautiful and White Flowers’ and ‘To Remain’, both of which feature in ‘Illustrations for Fourteen Poems’. In addtion, a signed etching of ‘French Shop’ will be offered for sale.
In addtion, we will also be offering a framed selection of Hockney’s striking etchings from ‘Six Fairy Tales’. The etchings ‘The Older Rapunzel’, ‘The Tower Had One Window’, ‘Corpses on Fire’, ‘A Black Cat Leaping’, ‘The Church Tower and Clock’, and ‘The Princess After Many Years in the Glass Mountain’ comprise this collection.
