New Records at Latest Welsh Sale
Our latest Welsh Sale on April 27th proved to be another great success with 90% of lots finding new homes and a few lots performing spectacularly well including new records for artists.
There was strong bidding from patriotic Welsh collectors around the UK, US and Europe and the Pat Llewellyn Collection was almost a 'white glove' section with only one lot not selling out of the fifty-four lots of Welsh pictures, samplers and Welsh furniture.
Collectors seem to embrace the eclectic nature of the Pat Llewellyn Collection and how every piece was uniquely Welsh in character.
A single owner collection of Gregynog Press Books also performed exceptionally well with each edition finding a new home to contribute to an overall total of over £20,000. The very fine condition of the books and the rarity of volumes encouraged bidding battles between collectors all over the world.
The auction was exceptionally encouraging with the top three highest purchasers in April's Welsh Sale being first time bidders. Unquestionably there is a new thirst for Welsh art which is creating excitement in the auction room.
Below are but some of the exciting results which created a stir at the April 2024 Welsh Sale:
